About Raley
This site and this event as a whole is dedicated to our daughter,
Raley Lynn Kirby, who was born on April 26th, 2008. Raley was born
with a mitochondrial disorder that took her life on June 13th, 2008.
Although we are no longer able to help Raley, we want to be able to
share her life and her memory with others. We are able to do this by
raising awareness for mitochondrial disease and by helping to raise
money towards finding a cure in hopes that others like Raley will be
able to have a fighting chance at living a normal life with mito.
About the Run
Our Story
The idea for Run 4 Raley was derived in Raley's hospital room at St.
Louis Children's Hospital. We had found out how serious this
disease was and that the odds of Raley making it through were very
slim. We wanted to organize this event so that if there was any
special treatment out there that we could not afford on our own, we
would be able to get it for Raley with the proceeds of this fundraiser.
Since Raley's passing, we knew that we still wanted to do this in her
honor so that others who are stricken with this disease could have a
chance to benefit from the money we were able to raise, even though
Raley no longer could.

We want to take a moment to thank all of our friends and family
who have been there for us, but more importantly for Raley
through all of this. We couldn't have made it without the love and
support of all of you. We appreciate all of the help that you gave
us to make this run possible.  We can only hope that our little
angel is so very proud of all of us.

If we've learned one thing from this, it's that life is much too short
and the time that you have here on earth should not be taken for
granted. Love your family, your friends and most importantly
yourself because without the strength of love to get you through
each and every day, nothing else really matters. Take the time to
enjoy your family and the people around you.  Let them know
how important they are in your life. You never know when they
might be taken from you.
"In the time we have it is surely our duty to do all the good
we can to all the people we can in all the ways we can."

"There are two great days in a person's life - the day we
are born and the day we discover why."
